The 2018 Winter Olympics will be coming to PyeongChang, South Korea, the first time that it has been held there in its history, and will start on February 8th and end on February 25th. The very first modern Olympics was held in 1920 Antwerp, Belgium. Then the first office Winter Olympics occurred in 1924 at Chamonix, France. But in 1925, the I.O.C. (International Olympic Committee) decided to create two separate Olympics, each happening every two years. The last Winter games was in 2014 Sochi, Russia, which was also the country that finished with the most medals. Russia came in with a total of 33 medals, while the U.S came in second with a total of 28 medals.
Some of the sports that will be held are Women’s Hockey, Curling, Ski Jumping, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, and Snowboarding. In addition, the 2018 winter games will not only be the first year that South Korea will be hosting the games, but the first time that both North and South will be joining together to from one team. Because of this, 2018 looks to be an exciting year for the Winter Olympics.
