Plantation High School Varsity Football Team 17-18
Following a lackluster season, the PHS football team has made a comeback.
Apparently, the cliché saying, “Everything old is new again,” is true. After last year’s sub-par season, the Plantation High School Varsity Football Team is back on top.
The PHS Colonels have not only a nine and one season record, but they also made it to the district playoffs and are qualified as the Top At large Seed in the region. According to Coach Davis the team’s improvement is based off their own hard work. “Traditionally we have a good football team here at Plantation High School, so we wanted to go back to the old ways of working hard and taking it one game at a time. Once we started playing and saw some success, the team got the motivation they needed to keep going”. The team racked up many awards this season, including the coveted Plantation Mayors Cup. Another accomplishment earned during this football season was the coach, Steven Davis, being named the Sun Sentinel “Broward Coach of the Year.” Coach Davis stated, ‘I would really like to dedicate that award to the staff; it is really a testament to what they have done. I am just one person - they do the nuts and bolts job of coaching the boys on an everyday basis.” Mr. Banks, the Athletic Director of the team says “It is great that he received this recognition. He is a great coach that gets along well with the players.

This accolade came after Davis’ return to coach the Colonels after taking a year off. According to Coach Davis he decided to leave because “After nineteen years, it came to a point where I just wanted to take a step back”. Under his leadership five students were invited to play in the 21st annual BCAA all-star football game:
After a season of wins, The P.H.S. Colonels show no signs of slowing down. Coach Davis says “We don't like to set goals, but we do focus on certain events as they come. We always say focus on the root not the fruit, we focus on every phase of the year - right now we are focused on our off-season programming feel when we do it this way the big goals take care of themselves and we don't miss steps in the process”. |
