S.W.A.T. at Plantation High School
Tobacco advertisements have been targeting children and young adults for years now and students at Plantation High are working to raise awareness.

Around 480,000 people die from smoking each year. S.W.A.T. (Students Working Against Tobacco) members are finding ways to help prevent any more people from having their lives taken away by tobacco. Tobacco has been a big issue for years; Organizations and laws have been created to spread awareness about the effects of tobacco. At Plantation High School there is a S.W.A.T. club created for students and victims of tobacco addiction to join. The students spend their time informing people about how tobacco’s advertisements are targeting children and teenagers. According to an anonymous student, “The organization has adults, but it is led by children.”
For this anti-tobacco organization students volunteer to spread the word and teach others the dangers of tobacco. Another student says that the organization plans events and comes up with ideas to help them advertise. This helps them become more well-known. Not only are they doing good for the community, scholarships and cords are offered to the students in the club. |
S.W.A.T. stands for Students Working Against Tobacco and seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco.
