The Republican Retirement
House Speaker Paul Ryan is retiring from Congress

Just Wednesday, April 11th House Speaker Paul Ryan announced that he would be retiring from congress and not seeking re-election, which could pose a threat to the Republican Party. Paul Ryan took the job in 2015 despite never wanting the job in the first place, which also played a part in his unexpected departure, along with his discomfort with working for Donald J. Trump when he was elected for president.
When speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill he stated, “You realize something when you take the job. It's a big job with a lot riding on you, but you also know this is not a job that lasts forever. “You realize you hold the office for just a small part of our history. So, you better make the most of it." Ryan's departure is a warning sign to GOP members who saw the Republican from Wisconsin as a stable and policy-oriented leader in a party shaken by the presidency of Donald Trump. He helped translate the Republican agenda items into legislation such as a series of tax cuts and rolling back banking legislation put in place under Democrats. |
As for a future career in politics, Ryan has made clear he is aware that his national approval numbers might not be presidential material at the moment to say the least.
