It seems that everything happens over twitter these days. On September 23rd, 2017, Donald Trump posted a tweet stating “Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes the thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won't be around much longer!” After reading this, North Korea then claimed that the U.S had declared war on their country. Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho went on to say “Since the United States declared war on our country, we will have every right to make countermeasures,...” This caused controversy as the Trump Administration rushed to dismiss the claim.
The United Nations meeting in New York was a memorable experience for many as President Trump gave a speech stating that he would “totally destroy” Korea if it was necessary for the U.S to protect its allies. In response to, North Korea's foreign minister, Ri Yong Ho compared Trumps threats to the “sound of a dog barking.” Before adding that he “felt sorry” for the President’s advisors, according to The Guardian. The Foreign Minister also included in his speech at the UN that “None other than Trump himself is on a suicide mission, in case innocent lives of the US are harmed because of this suicide attack, Trump will be held totally responsible.” |
Trump’s administration rushed to dismiss these claims quickly. At a press briefing on Monday the White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee, announced “We have not declared war on North Korea, and frankly the suggestion of it is absurd,...” She later went on to say “it’s never appropriate for a country to shoot down another country's aircraft.”
