November 6, 2018 is the day when Floridians get the opportunity to vote for their next Governor. Since current Governor Rick Scott is not allowed to be Governor for a Third consecutive term, a new Governor will have to take his place. There is no limit to how many times a Governor can run for office as long as they are not in office for more than two consecutive years at a time. After their first two terms, he or she must wait at least one election cycle before they can run again.
March 1st was the first day that candidates were able to run, and June 22nd is the last day that anyone wishing to run can file their paperwork. Although it is not certain about everyone who plans on running, it is known that Andrew Gillum (Mayor of Tallahassee), Gwen Graham (Former U.S. Representative), David Adams,Adam Putnam (State Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services), Rob DeSantis (U.S. representative), and Kyle Gibson. The list of runners is still updating. |
Current officeholder Rick Scott was first elected in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014 to serve his second term. Governor Scott recently announced that he is going to run against Bill Nelson, who is the only statewide elected democrat for Florida, for senator.
