Dwayne Wade, a Miami Heat player and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, donated $200,000 to help pay his hometown Chicago so they can join the gun control rally that Douglas students will have on March 24 in the nation's capital.
When Wade announced this, Carmelo Anthony from Oklahoma City Thunder wanted to help donate to the victims families. Joaquin Oliver was one of the victims and his family buried him in Wade's jersey. Wade opened up an art exhibit in a warehouse for 17 hours. This helped people to reach out to their loved ones, and fight for gun control. Wade said Sunday, “so many people showed up, it was a great response, so we wanted to extend it into this week.” He also said, “After Saturday, I got a chance to see all the kids that were there - all the kids I met with when I went to Parkland and a few others that are supporting and leading the charge of this march. Joaquin’s father and mother and his whole family were there. It was a good moment.” |
Wade also went to Marjory Stoneman Douglas to surprise the students. Wade said, “Sitting down talking to the kids in Stoneman I asked them what’s the best way for us to get involved.” Of course, this is why he is donating the $200,000. And he shared it on social media for everyone to see, and made an impact. People all over the world want to help, and march for better gun control.
